Social media is changing the world! We share our deepest thoughts and views and even share pictures of ourselves that exhibit our self-confidence. This year is the year that we have finally reacted to the social injustices displayed against the Black community. While quarantined, we have shifted our attention to Social media to stay connected to our friends and family. But every scroll is a posting of social injustices and calls for political reform. On a personal note, I have personally noticed that black men and women post selfies more often. Many captions say things like, "Melanin popping" or "Black N' Beautiful." These posts are praised by people of all ethnic backgrounds. This is how Social media is challenging racial differences.

The more we scroll, the more we see the devastation of racism, and how it ruins the families of those who have lost a loved one and the black community as a whole. This was the first time in history that protests against racist government policies took place around the world. The entire WORLD fought together and the SAME TIME!!!! And this happened because of social media.

In the aspect of self, Social media often praises those who grace their followers with their pictures. In return, followers give likes and comment their adoration towards the person taking the photo. When this happens, the confidence level of the person receiving the compliments receives a substantial boost. But when commentators speak about the beauty of the person’s skin complexion, we realize that this actually challenges racial differentiation. The challenge is not toward one another but against those who use the difference of one’s appearance to exclude them from their circle or following list. More importantly, these compliments embrace what makes them the person who posted unique and shows love to someone other than the self.
